This year’s A&S opportunities will be dual-faceted, as we invite both in-person and remote attendees to participate in the Splendors of al-Andalus Open Display and Remote Exhibit. Please register using the form at the bottom of this page.
Splendors of al-Andalus: an Open Display
For this Andalusian-themed event, we invite A&S projects related to al-Andalus between the 9th and 13th centuries CE. From courtly refinements to everyday objects, this open display offers a chance to highlight the elegance and innovation of the era. You might explore the region’s unique forms of Arabic calligraphy, the lyrical traditions of poetry and music, or the mesmerizing geometric designs. Take inspiration from the intricate woodwork and ceramics, embroidered and block-printed textiles, or the distinctive tastes of the Andalusian kitchen. Whether your project is a work-in-progress or a finished piece, we welcome you to share it in this celebration of beauty, knowledge, and craft.
This will not be a competition – but in the spirit of learning & exchange – participants may choose to receive personalized feedback on their entries. Documentation is requested so attendees can thoroughly appreciate and understand each entry, but it need not be elaborate. EZ-Doc forms will be available at the event. Splendors of al-Andalus: a Remote Exhibit
Whether or not you can attend Highland Hearthglow 2026, we invite you to share your Andalusian A&S project in advance through a short video or slideshow – and we will present it during Highland Hearthglow’s livestream! You can submit a video about a recently completed work or a work-in-progress. Each entry should be ~2 minutes long. We suggest a short introduction, followed by 60-90 seconds featuring your project. You can end your video with a short outro of the finished project being used, worn, etc. The deadline for video submission is Friday, January 16, at 12 noon.
